Nicknames: The Pig, Piggy, Water Buffalo, Hefty, Hefner, Catfish, Pig Latin

Birthdate: 2-22-01

Likes:  ice cream cones, destroying all of the toys, tennis balls, mud puddles, chasing his shadow, anything edible, bugs, his basketball.

Recently Emil has decided that his favorite toy is an ordinary childs marble.  He walks around with it in his mouth and you can hear it clicking his teeth.  He drops it and chases it.  Especially up and down the stairs.  What a strange dog.

Dislikes: Having his face washed, sharing, being treated like a dog.

Accomplishments: Failing puppy Kindergarten, being the only dog on in the neighborhood to look like something other than a dog, and most recently, narrowly surviving after choking on a bone larger than a softball.

Emil is a three year old male French Bulldog from Germany.  He came into my life near Mother's Day of 2001, at 12 weeks old.  We thank Bob and Ula Pearson , and Claudia Dietrich for making this happen.  He is my Frog Prince.

One of the coolest things about this dog is that he loves doing anything, as long as he is with us.

He rides in his own seat belt whenever we go places.  If he could talk, I know you would hear him yell "SHOTGUN" as we walked towards the car.
You might be surprised to learn that Emil is deaf.  And by deaf I do mean that he cannot hear anything, out of either ear.  He was born this way.

You might also be surprised to learn that we knew Emil was deaf when we adopted him.  Many people have asked the question "Why would you ever want a deaf dog?"  And my answer is always the same: WHY NOT?   Emil does not know that he is deaf.  And if he did, I doubt he would care either way.  He is a happy, healthy, intelligent dog with a ton of love to give.

Contrary to popular belief, deaf dogs are no harder to train than hearing dogs.  They just require a different type of training.  A lot of what we have taught Emil, we learned from the Deaf Dogs Action Fund.  Their information has been invaluable to us.

French Bulldogs are a wonderful companion breed. They are really smart and are great at manipulating their owners.  Their expression is generally stoic but they are actually quite comical. Think you might like to learn more and or adopt a French Bulldog?

This photo was taken while Emil was still with his breeder Claudia Dietrich, in Germany.  She knew Emil was special and asked Bob Pearson to help her find an adoptive home for him.

The hands lovingly holding Emil here are Bob's.  Without him, Emil would never have joined our family. THANK YOU BOB!

French Bulldog's aren't always the quiet, lazy, apartment dogs you hear about...

Well, ours sure isn't.

He is very active.  He loves to chase tennis balls, dig really big holes, and wrestle with our two boys.
Here he is finishing one of his "big" projects...digging a tunnel all the way under the playhouse.  (he started from the other side a few weeks earlier)

A lot of dogs end up in rescue, regardless of the breed, for just being dogs.
Not all Frenchie's are as messy or as active as Emil.  But if you are considering adding one to your family, be prepared.

They are all individuals and have a mind of their own.

We love Emil the way that he is and wouldn't change a thing.
Emil and my husband, Jaime are the very best of friends.  They belong to each other.
